Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge Resort Gift Show
elcome back to the Smokies in November. This November 4-9, 2005, the sixth annual Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge Resort Gift Show will take place in Pigeon Forge at two exhibit locations. Here they are:
- The Smoky Mountain Convention Center and Pavilion, 4010 Parkway (at the Ramada), between traffic lights No. 8 and No. 10.
- Our new and largest 2005 exhibit location. The Music Road Convention Center and Pavilion, 303 Henderson Chapel Road (behind RubyTuesday), at traffic light No. 1.

A new date pattern, new location and countless new personal care and wellness products will set EX•TRACTS®: Essentials for personal care and wellness apart this summer. The pioneering personal care tradeshow will run Saturday, August 13,through Tuesday, August 16, at the New York City’s Penn Plaza Pavilion, featuring 120 exhibitors and attracting 10,000 retailers. The event’s new summer and winter date pattern is timed to coincide with the New York International Gift Fair®, creating expanded buying opportunities for both gift and personal care business, according to a press statement from GLM.
EX·TRACTS exhibitors will set trends in cosmet-ics, skin and body care, natural and botanical prod-ucts, as well as well-being and comfort products.Product categories will include aromatherapy, bathand body care, beauty accessories, candles andhome fragrances, massage oils, music and record-ings, natural/organic products, perfumes, potpour-ri and skincare.
“The new time frame and location positions EX·TRACTS as part of a vibrant, established marketplace, well-timed for product launches and poised for tremendous growth opportunities. The event’s strategic collocation with the New York International Gift Fair will create access to a greater number of resources and buying opportunities forall participating retailers,” said Rita Malek, showmanager, in the statement.
The 59th annual National Stationery Show® presented five companies with Best New Product Awards on Sunday, May 15, recognizing new and innovative merchandise among the show’s five distinctive sections: Presents®, Celebrate®, TakeNote®, Home Work®, and Indulgences®. Winners were selected from more than 400 entries in all of the five categories.

The Boston Gift Show at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Sept. 10-13, 2005, will set itself apart this fall with exciting features that are unique to the new England market. There will be: an all-new, Jubilee Gift Basket Pavilion and collocation with the Jubilee! National Gift Basket Convention; a new, state-of-the-art facility with an easy-to-shop floor plan and convenient parking; and Made in New England, a division renowned for its product selection from the Northeast region.
The New York International Gift Fair® is the place to be this summer, with celebrations marking the 20-year anniversary of Handmade®, the launch of an outdoor living focus area, and a new collocation with EX·TRACTS among highlights. New educational initiatives will include “What’s Hot About Chocolate,” a multipurpose showcase inspired by a collection of chocolate-themed books, featuring a trend display,author appearances and booksignings. In total, some 2,600 exhibitors will participate, presenting the latest gifts and home accessories to nearly 43,000 retailers, Saturday, August 12 through Saturday, August 18, according to a press statement.
“Retailers have told us that the New York International Gift Fair is the market that always delivers; where ideas, products and long-lasting business relationships are launched. We support our customers’ goals to this end by continuing to introduce trend-setting product areas and programs. It is with this purpose that we are collocating with EX·TRACTS, developing an outdoor living focus area, and supporting the publishing sector of our industry with educational and networking opportunities. This summer, the fair will be especially exciting, as we celebrate Handmade’s anniversary and the importance handmade merchandise has had on the gift industry,” said Leslie Nathan Street, senior vice president and group show director, in the statement.
The California Gift Show® at the Los Angeles Convention Center promises to be the source for the best products and retail trend setting, according to a press statement from GLM. This summer only, running Friday July 22 through Monday, July 25, 2005, the show will present the diverse range of products buyers have come to expect from this West Coast destination. Expanding the market will be exceptional educational program offerings, and a newly expanded Eye on Design program, which will include the return of the Extreme Retail Challenge and a new design feature, a mural painting in progress, emphasizing the diverse cultures and unique products found at the California Gift Show in Los Angeles.
“Looking for furnishings handcrafted in Thailand or textiles and rugs from India, Iran or Turkey? A beautifully handcrafted vase from Poland? Trend-setting jewelry or apparel from Canada, Mexico or South Africa? Celebrating its 10th anniversary, The International New Age Trade Show® (INATS®)West will feature an expanded line-up of networking opportunities, programs, events and resources for the body, mind and spirit, according to a press statement from GLM. Running June 25-27, 2005, at the Denver Merchandise Mart, anticipated participation includes nearly 275 exhibitors and 1,250 retailers. Dr. Wayne Dyer, the Father of Motivation, will headline the event, presenting an exclusive program. Dr. Dyer will be signing complimentarybooks immediately following his presentation onSunday, June 26.
INATS West is proud to be the most extensive resource for New Age products in the United States. The June market will give retailers the necessary tools needed to be successful and to grow their business. This June at INATS West, retailers will be able to draw inspiration and energy from the authors and musicians appearing throughout the Show and the more than 250 vendors offering new and unique New Age and Conscious Living products. “It’s a market not to be missed,” said Andrew Toplarski, show manager, in the statement.
With the introduction of a New Resources division, the Washington Gift Show® is poised to offer the gift industry the latest in products and trends during the 112th semi-annual edition, July 24-27, 2005, according to a press statement from GLM. The mid-Atlantic’s premier gift market will present nearly 350 exhibitors representing over 1,500 lines and attract nearly 60,000 buyers during the four-day event.
“The Washington Gift Show is all about what’s new. With more new exhibitors and product launches than ever, the show offers what retailers need to jump start their businesses,” said Louise Seeber, show manager, in the statement.
PetStyle, a new division launching at the San Francisco International Gift Fair®, will feature a wide range of pet gifts and fashions, according to a press statement from GLM. Appealing to the $34 billion a year pet industry, the new division promises to add a new dimension to the 25th semi-annual San Francisco International Gift Fair, taking place August 6-10, 2005. In total, the Gift Fair will feature 1,900 exhibitors at the Moscone Center and Concourse Exhibit Hall.
“Gift retailers have found that the pet market is a profit center that is here to stay. PetStyle provides a targeted, easy-to-shop division where a variety of pet accessories can be sourced,” said Mike Dean, president, Western Exhibitors, LLC, co-producers of the show.
Licensing 2005 International Show
The Licensing 2005 International Show, June 21-23, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City will provide a pictorial platform for world renowned artist Christian Riese Lassen. This show within a show will take place in booth 3673.
Lassen International, the marketing arm for Chrisztian Riese Lassen, currently licenses its images on over 1,000 products throughout the world.
Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI)
Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI) is proud to build on the momentum of the building’s April Tabletop debut as it excites, educates and entertains retailers this summer. Next up is The New York Gift Week at 7 W New York, Aug. 13-18, 2005, with preview days Aug. 11-12.
Held at New York’s premier design center for high-end, high-style luxury product in the gift,tabletop and home décor industries, the August show at 7 W New York hosts buyers as they shop a world of new, luxury product, network with key industry players and learn critical trend information vital to the success of their businesses, according to a press statement from MMPI.
“W has welcomed thousands of retailers since its April opening. Retailers are thrilled with the environment and the resources,” said Joan Ulrich, vice president of leasing and marketing, MMPI’s gift industry, in the statement. “We are looking forward to introducing this incredible new building to a whole new group of buyers who may be visiting for the first time. Based on the enthusiastic feedback we have received to date, we expect they will discover 7 W as a must to see what is best in luxury.
”Seminar topics and speakers have been just released for the July 2005 Gift and Home Furnishings Market™ at the L.A. Mart®, held for a full week from Tuesday, July 19 through Tuesday, July 26. The series of free seminars will bring timely topics to the forefront for buyers, offering them unique insights into the industry, according to apress statement from MMPI.
Topics include: gift baskets, marketing Christmas in July, how to handle corporate accounts, taking back sales lost to the Internet, using Feng Shui to help your business, merchandising and display and visual merchandising. Chichiwill also explore the art of entertaining in a special session. The
Seattle Gift Center
The Seattle Gift Center’s first April 2005 Spring Gift and Home Accessories Show saw an increase of over 21 percent in store attendance over the June show, which was last held in 2003, according to a press statement from the center.
“We added this show because we surveyed our customers and they felt they needed an additional show and April was the best timing for them. We are very pleased with this first-time venture,” said Jeanne Neerman, president of the Independent Sales Association, representing all of the showroom owners at the Seattle Gift Center, in the statement.
Western Exhibitors, Inc.
The 150th semi-annual Seattle Gift Show®, the largest gift and decorative accessories event in the Northwest region, will feature over 4,500 product lines in over 1,300 booths, many from Northwest and Canadian manufacturers that retailers will find only at this growing market all under one roof at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, August 27th-31st, according to a press statement from Universal Shows.
