his month’s issue features an expanded jewelry section, where you
can read about everything from popular new looks and the influence
of international designs to display and buying tips. There is
also a story on men’s jewelry trends. Jewelry is a good bet for all
types of stores, such as tourist and resort shops and outlets in parks and
attractions, and our jewelry report will help you zero in on the styles that will
work best for you. Included in the jewelry section are also stories on trendy,
southwest and name-drop and personalized jewelry that feature interviews
with jewelry manufacturers and shop managers and buyers.
Also in the issue is a report on posters, signs, pens and pencils, good-selling
impulse items. Signs and posters can turn walls into valuable selling space
and pens and pencils, when displayed inventively, make for the perfect lastminute
purchase near the register.
In the Marketing section, we offer a story on gift cards, which continue to
be popular for all ages. And in the Candle and Scented Merchandise section
are stories on scented items, candle and fragrance facts, the increasingly
sophisticated variety of candles available to consumers and the home fragrance
market.
In our Back-To-School section we feature two stories: “Back-To-School
Market Starts in July,” and “Back-To-School Sees Steady Growth.” And the
Stationery section contains pieces about holiday business plans, what it
means to give greeting cards, how greeting card sales increase in spring, how
greeting cards reflect feelings and changing times, the issue of technology versus
tradition as it relates to greeting cards, the popularity of cards, greeting
card facts and figures, trends, what Hallmark’s trend spotter says about culture
and greeting cards and how an international design expert views trends.
In Editor Tony DeMasi’s Editorial this month, which is called “Don’t
Curb Your Staff’s Enthusiasm,” Tony discusses how to get the most out of
your employees by giving them confidence-building compliments and training.
Promoting a good attitude among staff members is a sure-fire way to
enhance the atmosphere of your store, he reports.
We offer additional stories on management, shoplifting, candles and jewelry
as well as show photos on our improved Web site, www.sgnmag.com.
We hope you enjoy the issue. Please e-mail us with your comments, suggestions
