Doug Cofiell Sr., Founder of Ivystone Group, Passes Away

ouglas Cooper Cofiell, the founder of Ivystone Group, passed away on April 18 after suffering a heart attack earlier that day. In 1960, Doug founded Cofiell Associates, the company that would eventually become Ivystone Group, a sales agency covering the Mid-Atlantic States. He retired from the company after his son, Doug Cofiell, purchased it from him in 1995.

“When you speak to those who knew him, they all recall fond memories of a hardworking, fun, admirable, professional and caring man who made a positive and lasting impression on those lives he touched,” said Jennifer Kohn, COO for Ivystone Group.

Doug is survived by his wife Nancy; his brother Richard; two children, Doug Cofiell and Joan Cortazzo; his stepchildren, Janet Colleran and John Shepherd; and nine grandchildren. Donations can be made in his honor to his childhood school, The School at Church Farm, Box 2000, Paoli, PA 19301.

The Industry Loses Joanne Burnette Clabo

oanne Burnette Clabo, 74, of Gatlinburg, Tenn., passed away on April 3. Her husband, Wendell Burnette, Sr. was one of the original owners of the Smoky Mountain Gift Show in Gatlinburg.

Joanne received a special award from the Living Legends Association at the annual dinner in Gatlinburg three years ago. The award recognized her contribution to the industry. Joanne and Wendell were pioneers and helped make the wholesale souvenir and gift business what it is today.

“Joanne gave me my first job at age 12 as a bellhop/ maintenance assistant at the Riverside Motor Lodge in Gatlinburg. She was a great lady,” said Tom Privett.

Survivors include: daughter Gina and her husband Andy Clabo; daughter Lisa and her husband John Heikkinen; stepson Wendell Burnette, Jr.; and a host of siblings, grandchildren, and friends.
