his edition of Souvenirs, Gifts and Novelties magazine is widely distributed at all the major trade shows, and is a must-read for anyone looking for tips and suggestions on how to better run a retail operation.

Scented merchandise is always a good bet for all kinds of shops, and in a special marketing section we examine the trends that will keep this category growing.

We also feature the ARAMARK Retail Excellence Awards winners and a look at the Hispanic, religious, Easter, pet and Generation X markets.

Chocolate is favored by the majority of U.S. adults, and we feature a retail profile of New York’s hot Chocolate Bar shop. We also take a look at another retail outlet, the popular Completely Kentucky store. This piece is especially timely as Kentucky Crafted: The Market 2007 is just around the corner. We also offer a 2007 Special Event Planner and look at luxury products, the gift buying habits of women and how youths use advertising.

Our cover story looks at shops at science centers across the United States. Country stores also zero in on the needs and wants of communities and travelers alike, and we feature a piece that looks at how these shops succeed in a competitive marketplace.

In our Hospital Gift Store section, we look at how merchandising techniques can help shoppers find the perfect get-well gift.

And our Zoo and Aquarium Buyers Association Group (ZAG) section this issue reports on a ZAG member roundtable discussion, and on how zoo shops use renovations and remodeling as a way to key in on customer service.

New this edition is a special National Park Hospitality Association (NPHA) section. We offer a report in words and photographs on the group’s Mid-Year Meeting, which was held recently in Bar Harbor, Maine.

College bookstores are always looking for ways to serve students, alumni, faculty and staff. In the area of sports-related gifts and souvenirs, everything from apparel to spirit items are good-selling, according to shop managers interviewed for this story.

We hope that you enjoy the issue. Please e-mail us at the address below with your comments, suggestions or questions.
