Dallas Market Center
allas Market Center, a large
wholesale resource, has
announced that Upper Deck
Ltd., a garden accessories and home
decor company, will become a permanent
exhibitor in Outdoor Living
starting June 20-26, 2007 with the
Dallas International Gift & Home
Accessories market, according to a
press release. Also at the market, Gift
Creations Concepts (GCC) will hold
its annual buying meeting and show.
And the market will host WithIt
(Women in the Home Industries Today) for their
10th Anniversary celebration. Two seminars by
Christi Proctor, designer with the popular “Trading
Spaces” show, will be held.
The market’s keynote address will be
delivered by internationally-renowned
Irish-born interior, furniture and product
designer Clodagh.
Also at the show, the Collegiate section
of the F!NDS Temp Show will
double in size and move to a prominent
atrium location on the 12th floor
of the World Trade Center. The
F!NDS Temp Show is scheduled for
June 22-25, 2007.
And Holiday & Home Expo, a
tradeshow devoted exclusively to permanent
floral, seasonal décor and
related decorative accessories, will “Celebrate
Color” during the upcoming show. Temporary
exhibits during the show will be open June 21-25.

(GLM®) have announced that Chris Gowe, vice president,
Canadian Gift Shows, will assume responsibility
for the California Gift Show® (CGS), as of October 1,
2007. He will continue to have responsibility for the
company’s four gift trade shows in Canada.

The introduction of “The Lounge,” a new concept in
buyer relaxation, which provided ultra-comfortable
lounge spaces, refreshments and massage immediately
on the show floor, an all-new live fashion show, sold-out
seminar programs and exciting live demonstrations,
were among the highlights of the 28th edition of the
San Francisco International Gift Fair®, according to a
press release. The show was held February 17-21, 2007,
at San Francisco’s Moscone Center.
The fair presented 1,241 exhibitors and welcomed
16,796 attendees to the winter edition. The next edition
of the San Francisco International Gift Fair is scheduled
for July 28-August 1, 2007, at The Moscone Center.
GLM has announced the appointment of Esther
Ossei-Anto as divisional manager for the California Gift
Show®. In this role, Ossei-Anto will be responsible for
the day-to-day sales, marketing and management of the
Fashion Accessories and Boutique divisions of the show,
according to a press release.
EX·TRACTS®: New discoveries in beauty and wellness
will expand by 50 percent to feature some 90 personal
care suppliers for the 22nd semi-annual edition,
Sunday, August 12, through Wednesday, August 15,
2007, at New York City’s Metropolitan Pavilion. More
than 5,000 buyers are expected to attend, according to a
press release.
GLM has announced a series of staff changes for its
semi-annual New York International Gift Fair™. The
changes, which include one promotion and three extensions
of existing staff responsibilities, take effect immediately.
Melissa Engongoro has been promoted to divisional
manager of New York’s Newest, the launching pad for
companies new to the New York International Gift
Fair.
Angenette Lynch has extended her management
responsibilities to now serve as At Home manager.
Priscila Onou’s responsibilities have been
expanded to include serving as divisional manager
of Personal Accessories including Details™.
The 154th semi-annual edition of the NYIGF
will take place Saturday, August 11, through
Thursday, August 16, 2007, at the Javits Center,
Passenger Ship Terminal Piers and Metropolitan
Pavilion.
GLM has also announced the appointment of
Kippy Boyle as divisional manager for the San
Francisco International Gift Fair®. Boyle joined
GLM in 1998.
Six honorees for the 2nd
annual Pride of New England
Awards were announced during
a reception at The Boston
Gift Show®. The winners
were: Dedham Women’s
Exchange; Off The Wall Art
and Fine Creations; Snow
Goose Shops; Susan’s Secret
Garden; The New England
Sampler; and The New
Hampshire Stores.
Kentucky Crafted: The Market
Kentucky Craft Marketing and
the Kentucky Department of
Agriculture partnered with the
Kentucky Retail Federation in
presenting annual top retailer
awards.
Winners were honored during
the annual awards dinner,
sponsored in-part by the
Kentucky Agriculture Department
and the Kentucky Fair
and Expo Center, on March 2,
2007, as part of Kentucky
Crafted: The Market’s 25th
anniversary at the Kentucky
Fair & Exposition Center,
Louisville.
This year’s Top Retailer
award recipients are: The
Artisan Center at Maple
Creek, for Top Out-Of-State Retailer; Wilma
Neace, Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park, for Top
Kentucky State Park Retailer; Shaker Village at
Pleasant Hill, for Top Kentucky Retailer; and
Remke Market, for Kentucky Proud Food
Retailer.
The best booth designs were also recognized,
and the winners were: Laura Ross/Studio Clay,
for Best Of Show; Hansen Studio, for Best
Overall Booth Design; Oak Level Forge, for Best
New In-State Exhibitor; Schall Studio and Design,
for Exhibitors’ Choice Award; Sweetie Pies, for
Best New Out-of-State Exhibitor; Kentucky
Tailgating and Bluegrass Steaks & Everything
Sauce, for Best Kentucky Proud Food Exhibitor;
and Designs by Jennifer
Zingg, for the annual
Purchase Award.
Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI)
Merchandise Mart Properties,
Inc. (MMPI) has announced
that Michael Kessler has
been hired as vice president
and general manager of the
L.A. Mart. In this role,
Kessler will oversee all operations,
marketing, leasing and
building support for the nearly
250 showrooms housed at
the facility, according to a
press release.

Urban Expositions
On the heels of the successful
debut of the Virginia
Beach Gift Show, Urban
Expositions is gearing up for
its full roster of 2007 summer
and fall shows. Held
March 4-6, 2007, the new
Virginia Beach Gift Show
was created to meet the specialized
needs of retailers
from eastern North Carolina
to Delaware. To better communicate
the versatile scope
of general gift, home accent,
nautical, souvenir and resort
merchandise featured, the
show as been renamed the
Virginia Gift Show and will
return to the Virginia Beach
Convention Center, March
2-4, 2008, according to a
press release.
Heading into summer, the
Philadelphia Gift Show
returns to the Greater Reading
Expo Center, July 22-25,
2007.
Florida retailers will also
have shopping summer opportunities.
Central, northern
and panhandle retailers will be
able to shop Florida’s largest
gift show, the Orlando Gift
Show, August 4-7, 2007, at the
Orange County Convention
Center.
South Florida retailers can
expect to find a wide range of
resources at the improved
Miami Beach Gift Show,
August 25-28, 2007.
In addition, western retailers
can look forward to the
return of the “Big Kahuna
–West.” An event dedicated
exclusively to themed merchandise,
resort apparel, gifts
and souvenirs, the Las Vegas
Souvenir & Resort Gift Show
returns to the Las Vegas Convention Center,
September 27-29, 2007. The show will once again
run concurrently with Fun Expo, the annual show
for the family and location-based entertainment
industry, and the AMOA (Amusement & Music
Operators Association) International Expo, to offer
a comprehensive, one-stop resource for new products
and cross-market buying opportunities.
