esort and beach shops serve a unique customer base of vacationers and locals. People taking a break from their routine are in a good state of mind, and these stores keep them happy with everything from logo apparel and souvenirs to sundries and candy.

In our Resort and Beach Products section, we offer a cover story on popular products for sale at these stores. Additionally, we feature for the first time an article on resort and beach footwear.

In our Zoo and Aquarium Section, we take up the issue of selling environmentally friendly products. From organic T-shirts to stationery that does not harm trees, these products are gaining popularity among zoo and aquarium buyers and retail customers. Also in the section, we cover how the shops merchandise apparel, a strong category for both adults and children.

Football fever sparks sales for college bookstores, and in a special feature we examine how winning teams can spell huge profits for shops that sell licensed and logo merchandise.

In our State Parks Report, we profile the Arizona State Park System’s shops. The staff at this network of retail outlets works hard to infuse the stores with the unique elements of their individual parks.

In our Licensed Merchandise story, you can get tips on how to make the most of this good-selling category

Now is the time to start planning for the special days that dot the spring calendar. We offer stories on St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and Tartan Day.

With Christmas just around the corner, you can read in our Christmas section about forecasts on sales and spending for the 2007 season, plus learn about holiday terms.

In his column that appears in each issue, our Editor Tony DeMasi regularly explores the importance of your staff to the overall health and success of your store. This edition we take up the issue of staff training in our Management Section. In one story, you can read about how critical your sales staff is to the overall satisfaction of your customers. The section also includes two pieces that offer expert management advice.

This issue also includes our semi-annual Profiles in Excellence feature. Readers can learn more about leading industry companies by reading the profiles.

Early reports from the two Tennessee trade shows in the Smokies indicate that quality buyers made these events extremely productive for exhibitors.

We hope you enjoy this edition. Please contact us with questions, comments, and suggestions at the e-mail address listed below.
