A new designation identifying “designer-maker” exhibitors will be introduced this summer in Handmade® at the New York International Gift Fair® (NYIGF®), providing an opportunity for buyers to easily distinguish individual artisans from production craft. Handmade runs Saturday, August 16, through Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Additionally, with a focus on sustainability, design trends and smart retail strategies, a comprehensive schedule of educational programming will roll out during the fair August 16-21, 2008 at the Javits Center, Metropolitan Pavilion and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94.

Another offering at the New York fair is EX·TRACTS®: New discoveries in beauty and wellness, August 17-21. The show segment will give personal care retailers access to a full complement of educational programming and important industry events as part of their participation in this semi-annual tradeshow. Online registration is now open for the New York fair.

San Francisco's distinctive style - and eco-conscious, wine-savvy, museum-rich and design-driven culture - will pervade the summer edition of the San Francisco International Gift Fair®, July 26- 29, 2008, at the Moscone Center.

“San Francisco's dynamic personality and trend-setting culture infuses the gift fair with energy, newness and a vibrant edge that keeps us ahead of the curve and on top of retail and product directions,” said Aubin Wilson, show manager. “San Francisco is on the cusp of very real, tangible trends and that is directly reflected at this market.”

As a leading West Coast trendsetter - from the pop culture of Southern California to the universal health of the planet - the summer edition of the California Gift Show® will launch exciting new resource areas including a Sustainable Furniture Council Pavilion, The Vintage Collection division, a “Launch” section for companies new to the market and a “Food Focus” neighborhood. A Green/Sustainable Trend Panel led by actor and environmental activist Ed Begley, Jr., and a new productcentered stage show – “Postcards from L.A.” - will bump up the market’s cuttingedge ambiance. The show will take place July 18-21, 2008, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Urban Expositions will launch a new semi-annual trade show for the country and crafts industry in 2009. The National Country & Crafts Show will debut at the new Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks in Oaks, Pa., February 7-10, 2009. Bringing the industry’s top names and up-and-coming companies together under one roof at the largest expo center in the suburban Philadelphia metro area, this new event will offer a convenient, cost-effective and comprehensive product resource for retailers throughout the nation.

“We’re launching this show in direct response to industry demand,” said Doug Miller, president of Urban Expositions, producers of the Philadelphia Gift Show and other gift, souvenir and textile trade events held around the country. “The country industry has needed an easily accessible exhibition facility sized to meet the substantial product assortment demands of a national buying audience. With its convenient Northeast location, area amenities, and ability to accommodate more than 1,000 booths, the new Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks has given us the opportunity to launch a show that meets all of these needs. More important, the facility’s size, and the fact that we’ve been able to secure dates indefinitely, help ensure that the show is well-positioned for future growth.”
