A Remembrance: The Industry Loses Leonard Schwalb

eonard E. Schwalb, 74, a native of Miami, passed away November 15, 2007. Schwalb is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby Schwalb, daughter Cheryl Schwalb, daughter Gail Jaramillo and her husband, Barry Dreyer, son Jeffrey Schwalb, and two grandchildren, Rachel and Alicia Jaramillo.

Schwalb, who served in the Air Force for 10 years, was a manufacturer’s rep for Sherry Manufacturing Company for 42 years.

“I will always remember Lenny as a dear friend, and as one of the top salesmen in the industry. My thoughts and prayers go to Lenny’s wife, Ruby, and his family. Lenny was ‘one of a kind,’ ” said industry veteran Jack Childers, who met Schwalb over 40 years ago.

HMSHost Congratulates Airport Concession Contest Winners

MSHost Corporation, a leader in travel dining and shopping, has congratulated the Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence winners announced at the Airports Council International – North America Airport Concessions Conference in Chicago recently.

“It’s a pleasure to congratulate our partner Griesbach Award winners,” said Elie W. Maalouf, president and CEO of HMSHost Corporation, in a press release. “Recognition from a panel of independent judges of their peers represents a high level of admiration in this industry. All of the winners should be proud of their accomplishments.”

Among the winners was the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport-Lindbergh Terminal, which won a second place prize for Best Specialty Retail Program in North America at a large airport.

Bloom Brothers Becomes Part of Squire Boone Village

nown over the decades as “the leather/souvenir specialists,” Bloom Brothers, which was founded in 1906, has been a leader in the imprinted leather services category and in the Native American-themed toys and souvenirs market.

Squire Boone Village acquired the Bloom Brothers name, inventory, and printing presses late last October, after Bloom Brothers closed.

Squire Boone Village is now shipping Bloom Brothers orders and is introducing 35 new Bloom items for 2008. Bloom Brothers orders can be combined with Squire Boone orders to qualify for free freight and dating. All Squire Boone Village local sales representatives are now also Bloom Brothers sales representatives.

A.T. Storrs Ltd. Appoints New Sales Representatives

.T. Storrs Ltd. has announced the appointment of the several new sales representatives to provide quality service to its clientele.

VanSelli and Company will be servicing Northern California, Nevada, and Arizona. John White and Associates will cover Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas. The Christiansen and Associates area includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and North Dakota. Additionally, Laurie Alvarez will focus on South Dakota.

Eastman Kodak Chooses Lord’s International, Inc.

Eastman Kodak’s new KODAK Picture Kiosk GS Compact provides a new source of revenue for travel and leisure accounts. Due to the overwhelming success of digital photography, there has been a dramatic increase in the sharing of photo prints and CDs. Kodak’s new compact kiosk provides both at an extremely reasonable price.

In the marketplace, there is a strong need for memory cards and batteries, two of the many products supplied by Lord’s International. With a full range of products, from digital to one-time use cameras, Lord’s International was the perfect fit for Kodak, according to a press release. The company will provide all Kodak Consumer Imaging customers with products including film, batteries, memory cards, and kiosks.
