Toy of the Year Award Winners Announced

he Toy Industry Association gives the Toy of the Year Awards annually. The TOTY Awards salute the creativity, success and playful spirit of the toy industry by honoring the best toys developed by the international toy industry for North American consumers. Among the 2008 winners are: Toy of the Year, Air Hogs Havoc Heli Laser Battle, Spin Master, Ltd.; Girl Toy of the Year, Littlest Pet Shop: Display & Play Round & Round Pet Town Playset, Hasbro, Inc. and Troop Groovy Girls, Manhattan Toy; Boy Toy of the Year, Transformers Movie Deluxe Figures, Hasbro, Inc.; and Game of the Year, Rubik’s Revolution, Techno Source.

Product Safety was Top Issue at Hong Kong Toy Fair

roduct safety is everybody’s business and should be regarded as a shared responsibility throughout the supply chain, according to toy industry leaders attending a product safety seminar at the Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair, Asia’s largest toy show.

The seminar, “Latest Product Safety Directives of the Toy Industry and Good Practices in Achieving Safety Standards,” attracted more than 700 people, including senior players from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and the United States.

Travelers Representing Endangered Species Chocolate Return to West Africa

his month, representatives from Endangered Species Chocolate will travel to the Ivory Coast and Nigeria to fulfill part of the company’s mission to produce ethically traded chocolate bars and help support humanitarian efforts.

Nick Lee, Mark Waddell, Kelly Meinken and Renee Sweany will travel to the Kobenan Yaokro and Amélékia Villages in the Ivory Coast to visit cacao farms and document sustainable farming practices and ethical working conditions.

From the Ivory Coast, Meinken and Sweany will travel to Nigeria to join a nonprofit’s medical mission in Uromi, Nigeria.
