ASD/AMD
Nielsen Business Media’s Merchandise Group recently
announced the launch of ASD EAST, being held
September 13-15, 2009 at the Jacob Javits Convention
Center in New York. This newly named fall show will
bring together the excitement and resources of the previously
named New York Variety Merchandise Show,
which has been held each September, with the New
York and Atlantic City shows held in January and May,
respectively. The new ASD EAST will combine these
shows into one major annual event that focuses on serving
the Value-Price Market with the widest selection of
variety merchandise on the East Coast. ASD EAST will
cover hundreds of product categories with something
for every type of buyer.
Nielsen also announced the launch of the ASD
Liquidation Expo being held June 7–9, 2009 at the
Long Beach Convention Center in California. A show
reflective of the times, the ASD Liquidation Expo will
be the only event of its kind in California and the
Southwest Region, specifically serving buyers and sellers
specializing in retail liquidation and close-outs.
ASD Liquidation Expo will cover a projected 30,000
square feet and host over 150 participating exhibitors
with discount and closeout merchandise opportunities
for buyer s in nearly every category.
Denver Merchandise Mart
The Denver Merchandise Mart will hold its Gift,
Home, Jewelry and Resort Show August 13-18 for permanent
showrooms and August 15-17 for temporary
exhibitors.
For the second year, the Denver Gift Show will coincide
with the Denver Apparel & Accessory Market held
at the Mart August 14-17. This unique opportunity will
offer buyers a wider variety of merchandise categories
with approximately 100 ladies’ and children’s apparel
and accessory showrooms open during that market.
The Denver Gift, Home,
Jewelry and Resort Show, with
over 500 exhibitors representing
more than 5,000 lines, is a
number one destination in
the country for lodge, rustic,
western and Native American
products. The Denver Gift
Show is also a major market
for the souvenir and resort
industry and offers an unsurpassed
variety of products, featuring
regional product lines
not available at other major
markets as well as gourmet,
decorative accessories, collectibles,
stationery, home furnishings,
jewelry, resort apparel,
toys and many traditional upscale gifts and handicrafts.

MMPI
MMPI (owner of the L.A. Mart) has announced the
acquisition of the California Gift Show® (CGS) from
dmg world media, creating a unified and strengthened
market experience anchoring the gift and home industry
for the West Coast. The newly integrated California
Gift Show, scheduled to take place July 14-20, 2009, will
run under MMPI’s single ownership and management
at two venues, to deliver the resources retailers need and
consumers are buying.
Urban Expositions and Development
At a time when other souvenir and resort shows on the
East Coast are facing increasingly competitive situations
that are diluting the marketplace and splintering the
buyer base, the Las Vegas
Souvenir & Resort Gift
Show continues to see steady
growth. Heading into its
fourth year, this premier
event returns September 23-
25, 2009 to bring an even
larger selection of top lines
and up-and-coming companies
together —all under one
roof, on one show floor at the
Las Vegas Convention
Center.
Expected to feature thousands
of lines, the Fall 2009
edition will provide retailers
with the most comprehensive
selection of souvenir and
resort products, including
destination, resort and tourist merchandise, souvenirs,
T-shirts, beach items, coastal and nautical, lake, mountain
and lodge, ski-themed products, destination, logo
products, shell items, giftware, jewelry/fashion accessories,
toys/games and more.
As an added bonus, the show will once again run
concurrently with the Amusement & Music Operators
Association (AMOA) International Expo to offer an
unparalleled shopping experience for all show attendees.
Offering retailers from the Florida Panhandle and
surrounding areas a tremendous selection in a convenient,
relaxed show environment, the Emerald Coast
Gift & Resort Show returns October 18-20, 2009 to the
state-of-the-art Emerald Coast Convention Center in
Destin/Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. This marks the fourth
edition at the Emerald Coast Convention Center following
the show’s move from its previous Panama City
Beach, Florida Boardwalk Beach Resort locale.
The show is designed to give retailers from the
Florida Panhandle and surrounding areas to New
Orleans a chance to buy last-minute holiday merchandise
and plan their spring and summer resort seasons
without the hassle and cost of traveling far from their
businesses.
Already the largest regional gift show in the nation,
the July 19-22, 2009 Philadelphia Gift Show at the
Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa., will
expand to feature even more new resources, including
new candy, gourmet, specialty food and confection
lines, as well as Treasures To Go, a new “show within a
show” featuring a wide array of jewelry and fashion
accessories available for immediate delivery to the trade.
These new additions, together with the show’s
tremendous selection, convenient location, inexpensive
hotels, free parking and easy access provide retailers
from throughout the Mid- Atlantic and Tri-State regions
with a cost-effective, convenient way to restock best-sellers
and gear up for the crucial third and fourth quarter
selling seasons.
On Sunday, July 19, 2009, the seminar “Is Retailing
Success Really Possible Today? Let’s Count the Ways!”
will be presented by Marilyn Nason, contributing writer,
Souvenirs, Gifts & Novelties magazine.
Returning July 25-28, 2009 to the Orange County
Convention Center’s West Concourse (Hall D2), the
semi-annual Orlando Gift Show offers Florida retailers
the opportunity to stay close to home and save while
they shop hundreds of booths filled with the latest introductions
from top manufacturers and major
Southeastern sales representatives in every product category.
The Orlando Gift Show also runs concurrently
with the Orlando Cash & Carry Show, providing one
comprehensive product resource with tremendous crossmarket
buying opportunities.
The Ocean City Resort Gift Expo returns to the
Rowland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City,
Md., from October 31- November 3, 2009. Perfectly
timed to help coastal and shore community retailers
from Maine to Virginia Beach plan their spring and
summer resort seasons, the 2009 edition’s earlier dates
also give buyers the chance to do last-minute Christmas
and holiday buying from the show’s extensive selection
of themed merchandise, resort apparel, gifts and souvenirs.
“Bringing together a casual shopping atmosphere with
the perfect opportunity to get a jump on the busy resort
season, makes the Ocean City Resort Gift Show a great
option for buyers from Maine to Virginia Beach,” said
Doug Miller, president, Urban Expositions. “And, off-season
hotel rates make it an affordable option and the ideal
place for the resort gift and souvenir industry to gather.”
