Tools, and Toys, of the Trade

ajor trade shows fill up the month of February, with Toy Fair returning to New York City Feb. 14-17, the Denver Gift, Home, Jewelry & Resort Show taking place Feb. 25-March 2, Transworld’s Halloween Costume & Party show Feb. 26 – March 1 in Chicago, and the ASD show in Las Vegas Feb. 28-March 3.

We offer a special ASD supplement section that gives you all of the latest information about the company’s Las Vegas show, as well as stories about discount and variety stores, Las Vegas hotel resort shops, plush at hospital shops, jewelry at botanical gardens and a history of jewelry staples.

We keep you informed this issue with other lively editorial you can use both on its own and in relation to the shows.

Our Profiting from Play section examines gifts that teach about the significance of playthings at toy museum shops, green toys at science museum stores and targeting teens at minor league baseball shops. The section also offers the latest news from the toy industry and interesting facts about the history of toys.

If you are attending the Halloween show, you will want to check out our Halloween at party stores feature.

In our expanded Zoo and Aquarium Section, you can learn about captivating guests with toy and plush displays at zoos and aquariums, selling name-dropped and personalized souvenirs at aquariums and get tips on buying apparel at zoos.

We continue our apparel coverage in the ICBA section, where our contributor found that cold weather across the country has spurred on the sales of warm garments at independent college bookstores. Licensed sports merchandise is also highly favored at the nation’s schools, our College Bookstore section story found.

The country’s treasured public lands are meeting their mission to educate the public through merchandise sold in gift and bookstores. Our story reports on how buyers and rangers alike are choosing just the right mix of souvenirs and books.

Sometimes the right gift or souvenir is the edible sort. At resorts, where pampering and engaging the senses is the goal, gourmet foods are tempting guests to take home a taste of their experience.

We hope you enjoy the issue, and safe travels if you are attending the February shows. Please contact us at the e-mail addressed listed below with your comments, questions and suggestions.
