Dallas Market Center
Dallas Market Center and the Accessories Resource Team (ART) recently announced that Don McEvoy would receive the Academy of Achievement Award at the 21st annual ARTS Awards. The award, given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the decorative accessories industry, is presented at a gala event each January during the Dallas Total Home & Gift Market. The market is scheduled for Jan. 13-19.
McEvoy began as a sales representative in 1964, quickly building a successful showroom in the Dallas Trade Mart. The McEvoy name, after more than four decades, has become synonymous with quality resources, excellent customer service and industry leadership.
Over the course of more than 250 markets and trade events, McEvoy has launched hundreds of new products, served tens of thousands of retail customers, and enjoyed the fierce loyalty of many long-term employees.
“For more than 45 years, Don McEvoy has worked tirelessly to incubate new companies and to help retailers thrive,” said Bill Winsor, president and CEO, Dallas Market Center. “We honor his innovation and his leadership. He remains a vital partner in the success of countless businesses. The home décor industry has no better friend and advocate than Don.”
McEvoy, always a step ahead, has consistently adapted his business model to remain competitive - through product development, new sales channels, and a diversified product mix. He has never been afraid of creative business strategies and has enjoyed not only sustained success but also the respect of manufacturers, retailers and his competitors.
Denver Merchandise Mart
The Denver Merchandise Mart will hold its Gift, Home, Jewelry and Resort Show February 25 - March 2 for permanent showrooms and February 27 - March 2 for temporary exhibitors. Information about the Denver Show is available online.
Since opening its doors in 1965, the Denver Merchandise Mart has firmly established itself as the Rocky Mountain region’s premier wholesale marketplace. The Mart’s 400 permanent showrooms offer buyers a broad selection of products in the gift industry; women’s and children’s apparel and accessories resources; as well as apparel, accessories and equipment for the western and equestrian industries.
The semi-annual show, with over 550 exhibitors - 175 permanent showrooms and 375 temporary exhibitors - representing more than 5,000 lines, is the number one destination in the country for lodge, rustic, western and Native American products. The show is also a major market for the souvenir and resort industry and offers an unsurpassed variety of products, featuring regional product lines not available at other major markets as well as gourmet, decorative accessories, collectibles, stationery, home furnishings, jewelry, resort apparel, toys and many traditional upscale gifts and handicrafts.
Available for immediate release is a unique assortment of one-of-a-kind Native American and other handcrafted merchandise in all mediums. In addition, the show features a cash and carry section of exhibitors representing such categories as personal care, jewelry, apparel, furniture and decorative accessories.
The Denver Show offers free educational seminars for buyers, complimentary evening entertainment and buffets, complimentary Buyer’s Lounge with refreshments, free coat check, high-speed wireless internet, free fax and copier service, over 3,000 free parking spaces, free parking lot shuttles, discounted hotel rates from seven area properties with free shuttles to and from the show, and the convenience of a market complex located under one roof. Consistently on post show surveys, buyers say it is the “variety of merchandise, easy-to-shop-facility and friendly staff” that makes the Denver Show such a great experience.
Halloween & Party Expo
The Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau calls Houston the City of Infinite Possibilities. Throughout the city’s history, it is has proven to be just that.
“Houston is custom-made for conducting business,” says Jonathan Erwin, of Halloween & Party Expo. The show is scheduled for Jan. 23-26, 2010 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. “We picked Houston as the Expo’s home, because it is the perfect blend of two things our exhibitors and attendees asked for. First, a place where they could see new products and place orders early, without having to worry about wintertime travel problems. Because of its warm climate, traveling to and from Houston in January is a breeze. Second, while the city has numerous first-class restaurants and entertainment venues, it is not burdened with the unnecessary distractions that lead to poor show attendance and slow business.”
Having the right city is only half the battle; the convention center has to be right, too. “The GRB is a great place to have an event. When you walk in, it doesn’t feel institutional or like a warehouse, and that helps keep the exhibitors and attendees in a positive state of mind,” Erwin said. The George R. Brown’s length and relatively shallow depth also means no exhibitor will feel like they are crammed in the back. “It’s really a great, modern, beautiful venue.”
In addition to providing a great place for buyers and exhibitors to do business and write orders, the Expo will also host several special events. These events range from industry parties to the latest costume shows to valuable educational seminars.
Friday, there will be an industry-wide party. Saturday, the show will host a Halloween Style Show featuring over 30 companies and 80-plus costumes, followed by a downtown pub crawl. Sunday, there will be the Annual Halloween Bash. Monday evening, the Halloween Industry Association is presenting important updates to retailers regarding the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). Educational Early Bird Seminars will be held Monday and Sunday morning.
“Although our meeting does have some educational and networking aspects, its primary purpose is to provide an opportunity for manufacturers to show and sell their product to buyers. “It is very much a ‘working’ show,” Erwin said.
Exhibitors from 2009 are lined up and ready for a successful 2010. Cheryl Kerzner, vice president of Product Development and Marketing for Disguise said, “The Houston Show is our major show for the specialty market this year, and we feel very confident about presenting our new lines there. We are really excited about being back in Houston in January!”

The San Francisco International Gift Fair returns Feb. 6-9, 2010, to the Moscone Center for its winter edition with even more resources and up-and-coming product lines, as well as a full roster of buyer services that promise to take retailers’ bottom lines in a new direction.

At the show, retailers can explore more resources than ever before from 600 companies representing more than 3,000 plus top name manufacturers and innovative newcomers. To maximize buying schedules, all exhibitors will be featured in seven easy-to-work categories on the show floor.
In addition to the tremendous product selection buyers will find in the booths, a number of striking product displays will be featured throughout the show. Offering a one-stop resource for discovering some of the wonderful lines on the show floor, the displays are packed with quick merchandising ideas retailers can take back to their stores.
