Our Jewelry and Stationery Issue

his edition we offer the most comprehensive coverage in the industry of two important merchandise categories: stationery and jewelry. Although decidedly low-tech, greeting and note cards, postcards and writing instruments are still a favorite of tourists and local customers. And jewelry is an always-meaningful remembrance of a vacation or of a day away from home. Shops that make the most of these categories, such as the stores at national parks, hospitals, colleges, museums and seaside locales as well as inspirational merchandise stores, are sure to realize profits and customer loyalty. We cover all of these types of retailers in the issue.

We also feature a special Urban Expositions section that highlights the company’s Las Vegas Souvenir and Resort Gift Show, Sept. 22-24, 2010, and offers a sneak preview of products offered by a selection of the event’s vendors. And, you can read about souvenir sales in Las Vegas shops in a related story.

In our Zoo and Aquarium section, we examine plush, glass gifts and writing instruments. These three important merchandise categories are increasing sales for the stores, which cater to schoolchildren with a few dollars to spend and adults with bigger budgets alike. And as young people and trendy apparel go hand-in-hand, we take the pulse of T-shirts and other apparel sales at college bookstores around the country.

Many of the top companies in the industry sell personalized and name-dropped products, and these vendors experience steady demand for their products. In our AAM Report, we examine how children’s museums throughout the United States are cashing in on the popularity of their names with these gifts.

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s are holidays that have their focus squarely on family celebrations, according to party story owners. We offer tips and advice on how to sell everything from tableware to centerpieces in our party store section. Additionally, Grandparents Day, which is September 12 this year, is an opportunity to honor family ties. In a special report, gift shop owners and managers tell how they commemorate the day, and honor grandparents all year round.

Twice a year we offer our special Profiles in Excellence feature. The section offers snapshots of the best vendors in the industry that can supply your shop with everything from gifts to apparel, and many other top-quality merchandise categories.

We hope you enjoy the issue. Please contact us at the e-mail address below with your comments, questions and suggestions.
