Shopping for Success at the Summer Shows

This is our summer trade show issue, and we hope you enjoy the articles that are designed to help you make the most of the season.

In the Apparel Report, we examine trends at Minor League Baseball fan stores, college bookstores and at beach shops. And the Christmas in July feature offers stories on how to draw in holiday shoppers at hospital shops, pet gift stores and at mall carts and kiosks.

We also feature the second installment of the Country • Handmade section, a recurring feature. In this issue, merchandising and fixture tips for country stores are offered, and trends in candy, scented products and cards are examined.

The magazine also covers a wide range of other merchandise categories and shopping experiences. With their beauty and memorable display potential, glass gifts are a perfect fit for Inspirational stores, our story found. For Party stores, licensed paper supplies and other merchandise are top sellers. Our story offers tips on how to make the most of this important category. In the Plush and Toys section, you can read about strategies for stocking best-selling playthings and get news from the Toy Industry Association. And in the Public Lands Partner Stores feature, we offer the story “Best Souvenir Picks - Stocking Park and Historic Site Mementos that Sell.” The article includes the bonus sidebar “Tips for Displays at National Park and Historic Site Stores.”

Jewelry is a best-selling souvenir choice at all types of destination locations. In the Zoo and Aquarium Section, we put the spotlight on this critical category with stories on wildlife-themed jewelry, mood and novelty jewelry, the use of social media to drive guests into zoo and aquarium gift stores, and the sidebars “Top Tips for Picking Novelty Jewelry” and “Top Display Tips for Novelty and Mood Jewelry.”

Special trade show preview coverage includes sections devoted to the ASD/Las Vegas show, the International Gift Exposition in the Smokies™/Souvenir Super Show® and the Urban Expositions and Development Las Vegas Souvenir & Resort Gift Show. Also in the IGES/SSS section is a look at the extensive retailing operation at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. Additionally, in the National Association of Retail Buyers (NARB) Special Feature, the group offers all kinds of practical tips and advice on creating the best retail environment possible.
