The Big 50th Anniversary Year Resort Show Issue

Souvenirs, Gifts & Novelties, a voice for the retail industry for 50 years, has found success by constantly evolving. Over the years, the magazine has grown to cover a diverse and changing industry, and now serves as a definitive voice for all types of stores, including shops at zoos and aquariums, hospitals, museums and amusement and waterparks as well as party, inspirational, country and both general merchandise and specialty shops.

This is the magazine’s Big Annual Resort Show Issue, and its 356 pages contain the best in editorial to keep you educated and informed, ads from all of the industry’s leading companies and special sections that cover the November Tennessee trade shows.

Vendors and retailers alike know that beaches and resorts are prime locations for gift and souvenir sales, and in a special section we examine the sale of nautical home décor items and of classic and innovative souvenirs. Additionally, our popular Fashion Accessories section examines the best beach and resort fashion merchandise of the season.

The cover of the Fall 1962 issue, which was the third volume, of the formerly named Souvenirs and Novelties. Fifty years later, Souvenirs, Gifts & Novelties magazine is a definitive voice in the industry.

Apparel and jewelry are two other important categories for all types of retailers, and we offer a Special Apparel Feature Section and expanded coverage of jewelry sales at zoos and aquariums.

Although candy and snacks can be strictly impulse purchases, smart retailers realize that with proper planning and presentation, edible gifts and souvenirs can become more than an afterthought. In our Candy, Snacks and Edible Gifts Special Report, we offer tips on the marketing of food, and also look at the art and science of stocking what sells.

In today’s hectic world, country and general stores can provide shoppers with a soothing step back in time. In this edition we offer two stories that cover these types of shops that include the bonus sidebar “Tips to Keep in Touch with Shoppers.”

The issue also covers the 25th year of ARAMARK's Sports & Entertainment Retail Expo, theft prevention and display strategies, licensed and name-dropped souvenirs, Minor League Baseball fan stores, Valentine’s Day merchandise, the sale of toys at travel center stores, science museum educational toys, souvenirs at wineries and more.

It is with sadness that we report the passing of retired Publisher Emeritus Janice Weiss on August 24 at 92. Janice faithfully served the magazine for decades, and we present a special remembrance of her many important contributions to the industry on page 239.

I hope you enjoy the issue. Please email me at with your comments, questions and suggestions.
