Select bloggers from noted design and trend-watching sites selected products designed in Argentina, Japan, New York and Sweden as the most “urgent, odd and delightful design” at Accent on Design® at the New York International Gift Fair® (NYIGF®) late last summer. These “Bloggers Choice Awards” for exemplary product design were presented to five exhibitors in Accent on Design at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Center.
The products identified as the “next big thing” were: MSY Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) for real wood iPhone cases; Design House Stockholm Ab, (Stockholm, Sweden) for Rock Chair by Frederik Färg; Seletti North America, Inc. (Brooklyn, N.Y.) for rock_me; Flos® USA Inc. (Huntington Station, N.Y.) for D’E-Light by Philippe Starck for Flos; and CARGA (Buenos Aires, Argentina) for the canvas collection.

Retailers across the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and South and Central America seeking merchandise and point of purchase items to increase their shop revenue found even more merchandise selections at Surf Expo’s September 2012 edition with the introductions of two new product categories: Consumables and LifeStyle.
Featuring specialty foods, protein and energy drinks, water, nutritional supplements, snacks/confections, and personal accessories like water bottles, Consumables was dedicated to this growing market segment and its appeal to boardshop retailers, beach and gift shops and resort boutiques alike. Consumables exhibitors included VPX Sports, NoGii Paleo bars, NOW energy bars APSU Surf Supplement, HDX Hydration Mix and Caveman Foods.
Attendees were invited to join Vipe Dasai, CEO of HDX Hydration Mix, on Thursday, September 6, for “Creating New Profit Centers with New Categories,” to learn how to identify new consumable products for their store, merchandising techniques and how to educate staff.
LifeStyle featured progressive, fashion-conscience brands in an artistic environment that promoted creativity and its own vibe. The area surrounded a DJ lounge each afternoon. Exhibitors in LifeStyle included Ini Coopertive, Jedidiah, Topo Ranch, Insight, VSTR, Yums, Johnny Fly Clothing and Tee Ink.
Surf Expo is the largest and longest-running trade show for the boardsports and beach industries (36 years). Surf Expo is held in January and September in Orlando, Fla., and draws buyers from specialty stores across the United States, the Caribbean, Central and South America and around the world. Vianza Drives the Future of Specialty Retail through

Urban Expositions, a large gift and souvenir trade show organizer, recently announced that Vianza, Inc., has become the exclusive technology sponsor of its trade shows for wholesale business management.

Halloween & Party Expo Update
When the 2013 floorplan was open to new exhibitors for a month, the Halloween & Party Expo show floor was already 90 percent full. With thousands of buyers and hundreds of exhibitors from all across the world, the Halloween & Party Expo is quickly becoming known as THE global show for the industry.
The 2013 Halloween & Party Expo will take place January 19-22, 2013, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
