Twice a year, the magazine gives its top advertisers the chance to connect with readers by writing half-page stories about their histories, merchandise and services for the Profiles in Excellence feature section. For this the summer edition of the profiles, SGN presents articles from over 40 companies that are eager to win your interest and business. We hope you enjoy the profiles and that you check out the November/December 2013 issue for the winter installment.
Apparel retailing has become more and more complex, with online options at times overshadowing traditional outlets in terms of price and selection. Additionally, apparel sales are being generated at unexpected locations, including country and general stores. You can read about apparel, accessories, hat and cap sales at these shops in the Country · Handmade feature. We also cover T-shirt sales at national park sites, how the selection of skirts, dresses and wraps are moving at inspirational stores and the scarf, handbag and sunglass picture at resorts.
Jewelry is another profitable category for all types of shops. In our jewelry section we offer stories on best jewelry selling practices at art, science and children's museums, name program and costume jewelry at coastal and resort stores and licensed team jewelry at Minor League Baseball fan stores.
This issue also marks the start of a new official section devoted to souvenir stores at United States show caves and caverns. We present a message from Greg Beckler, the president of the National Caves Association (NCA), along with a story about selling gemstones, geodes and minerals. We are pleased to add the members of the NCA to our distinguished roster of readers and welcome their feedback and ideas regarding our coverage.
Gemstones and geodes can be the perfect small memento of a visit to a show cave, and the souvenir landscape includes many other types of easy-to-take-away gifts. In the story "Small Merchandise with Big Potential - Stocking Inexpensive Gifts and Souvenirs at College Bookstores," we focus exclusively on selling trends in small souvenir merchandise.
Also in the issue, we offer stories on retail trends at hospital gift stores, shops that sell nostalgic licensed merchandise, party supply stores, stationery and paper outlets, Hallmark stores, airports and zoos and aquariums. We also present a special feature on celebrity licensed merchandise that includes an interview with comedian Jeff Foxworthy regarding his new novelty card line.
I hope you enjoy the issue. Please email me at email@example.com with your comments, questions and suggestions.
