MV Sport’s Terry Amburgey to Retire

Terry Amburgey

Terry Amburgey, the national sales manager for MV Sport since 1999 and a veteran of the very beginning of the development of the resortwear industry, is retiring.

Amburgey, of Long Island, N.Y., grew up in Cinncinnati, Ohio, and began his career in 1975 with Velva Sheen, a Cinncinnati sportswear brand established in 1932. At the age of 33, he was named national sales manager and later served as the company's general manager, and then president.

In the 1980s, he founded Crable Sportswear with a partner. The company experienced a major success by introducing appliqué to the resort market. During his career, Amburgey, who is a father of three, witnessed the takeover of casual dress with the merging of resort apparel trends into the everyday market.

“The resort market has influenced the fashion market strongly in that regard,” he said in a recent interview. He recalled attending a resort apparel trade event in California in the early 1980s and being asked to remove his coat and tie “because it made people uncomfortable.” Amburgey is actively involved in finding a replacement to fill his MV Sport post. He can be reached at (800) 367-7900.
